The word "Shanti" means peace in Sanskrit. Shanti hopes to transport its guests to a more peaceful place with both the ambiance and the cuisine. Owner Solmon Chowdhury opened Shanti in Dorchester, Massachusetts in 1999 to bring Indian food to Boston.
Over a decade later, after adding locations in Roslindale, MA (2013) and Cambridge, MA (2016) with his wife Rokeya Chowdhury, Shanti Restaurant is said to be The Best Indian - Boston. "Boston's Best" Indian cuisine (2016) by Improper Bostonian, "Best Indian" cuisine (2016) by Boston A-List, and "Best of Boston" Indian cuisine (2012) by Boston Magazine.
